Over the past few months, I’ve had an increasing awareness of breath. Most of us take it for granted, don’t we, we just breathe and so we live! When I reflect on the sheer wonder of our lungs’ ability to carry oxygen into our bloodstream to be transported to every cell in our body, I realise how important air quality is. That’s where the diffusion of essential oils plays such a strong role in cleaning up pathogens in the air or providing a boost to a system in need of support.
In my home, I use my ultrasonic essential oil diffuser for a number of reasons, choosing different oils or combinations for their aromatic benefits.
For purifying the air, there are many oils to choose from, but lemon and eucalyptus are favourites, while dōTERRA’s On Guard® is my go-to for an immune system boost. Top of my list to open up airways is doTERRA’s Breathe® blend. It’s a combination of oils that have been specially selected to complement each other in supporting the respiratory system. More oxygen in the system enables up to focus better and also calms anxiety and shallow breath. A tip is to try a drop on your mask when out and about. Friends have shared with me how using Breathe® at night has been a ‘marriage saver’ when it comes to sharing a bed with a snorer!
Our breathing is also related to our emotional health on a much deeper level – did you know that our lungs are the organs that store sadness and grief? With these emotions coming to the fore for many of us in these strange lockdown times, I feel so gifted to have a resource like Breathe® on hand.
I also love using emotionally supportive oils to create a lighter energy and usually start my day with wild orange and peppermint. Wild orange is a great support for mood – I find its beautiful citrus fragrance uplifting but also calming. I add a couple of drops of peppermint to boost my energy and focus. It’s one of my favourite aromas – fresh and zingy! In the evening, diffusing lavender helps to create a relaxing environment, perfect for winding down. If I’m really feeling stressed or downhearted, I also add a couple of drops of frankincense that I experience as grounding. It’s a powerhouse that is known as the ‘king of oils’ because it enhances every oil you combine it with, while supporting the body on a cellular level.
While one could diffuse any brand of oil, I personally can only vouch for dōTERRA – it is CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) which gives me the purity, potency and quality that I value.

Matcha is a special type of powdered green tea that is grown and produced in Japan (in most cases). The green tea leaves are shaded from the sun for the last few weeks of their growth, increasing the chlorophyll content and creating a gorgeous green color. Then, the leaves are carefully ground with stone grinding wheels to produce a fine powder.
