Antioxidant work to neutralise harmful molecules in our body known as free radicals. By subduing free radicals, antioxidants help our body to maintain its health naturally. Green Tea? Black Tea ? In the production of black tea, many of the active ingredients beneficial to our health (catechins, vitamins…..etc) are lost through fermentation and oxidation. None of these processes are used in the production of green tea where green tea leaves are either steamed or pan fried to retain its active ingredients. This lends itself to a more beneficial green tea, health wise. The slight bitterness in green tea is due to its catechins. Green tea is an unfermented (un-oxidized) tea. By not fermenting the tea, it retains the green colour and taste, different to other teas. Green tea is more effective than vitamins in preventing the formation of super-oxide, a free radical. By drinking many cups of green tea a day is not harmful, in fact the quantity of cups a day can only increase the tea’s virtues. It also has the ability to burn fat and increase metabolism. Green tea has been around for hundreds of years and considering the health benefits associated with the tea, it would be difficult not to drink it.
